Chomper - If Mr. Berry is looking for a career advancement opportunity in the near future, there is a greater likelihood he will find one somewhere other than UND. The position title may not be as much of a factor in his decision to apply, but the salary/benefits package mostly likely will, especially if the titles "Assistant Coach" and "Associate Head Coach" equate to major differences in compensation. Mr. Berry has a good resume and he most definitely will be a candidate for Head Coaching positions, Associate Head Coaching positions, and/or hockey administrative operations positions. I would love to see him on the UND Coaching Staff, but I do not think it is a strong possibility. To answer your "good cop" vs "bad cop" accusation, no, it was not me.

I agree Air Force is a good team coached by a Serratore. They come to play every game. They are a good opponent and I have no problem playing them. Plus they have some local kids on their team.

UND will be playing against UAA and UAF in that tournament. The reason is that UND gets the Alaskan exemption by playing against two Alaskan schools in Alaska. It's the same reason why UND played in the Anchorage tournament two years ago when they weren't scheduled to play in Anchorage during WCHA play. It's two free games, an attractive option for them.

Thats ignorant to call Air Force a mediocre team. They played BC Closer than any other team in the tournament. They consistently play well against WCHA teams, including their game against UND last year.

I wouldn't say that no one thought for a second he wouldn't go to UND. He definitely thought long and hard about it and UND knew all along the situation with Seth. You can peg great players for major juniors at a young age, but if you do that, you will never get a Jonathan Toews. Everyone said Mike Cichy would never end up here, either. The coaches do need to gauge how likely a kid is to end up coming here, but I think it's tough just to ignore the top players and write them off.

The situation with MacInnis brings up an interesting thought to me:

Is it better to cover the possibility with the expectation that it does not go the way we'd like or is it better to downplay it until it becomes a reality?

Look at the Seth Jones situation. Oooh, he might go the NCAA route and it is down to the WHL and UND! Ok, I can see some good in that, but no one thought for a second he wouldn't end up in the WHL.

I don't see MacInnis going anywhere but the OHL. So why care?

Really? Yuck. One poor, two mediocre teams and UND.

That would be a lot like having Minnesota take a tourney against RIT, Air Force, and UConn.

I'd love to see a tourney where UND faces teams like Union, Maine, and CC or something like that. Union has come off a great year, Maine is a great program that provides competitiveness AND a friendly rivalry, and CC provides name recognition.

Columbus just made Richards permanent head coach for next season (when they'll probably fire him). That means Brad Berry might not be as available as many expect.

Is UND still on the schedule for the Alaska tournament? I saw an unreleased version of the Air Force schedule and they have the four teams as Air Force, UAF, UAA and Canisius. It also is a week before it was listed on the unofficial UND schedule.
