NHL Combine and all-USHL teams

The NHL has sent out 102 invites to the Combine, which will be held May 30 to June 4 in Toronto. Two Sioux recruits are on the list.

Forwards Rocco Grimaldi and J.T. Miller, both of the U.S. Under-18 team, have an opportunity to go and do some physical testing and interviews with NHL teams.

The draft will be June 24-25 in the Xcel Energy Center. Grimaldi and Miller are expected to go between the mid-first and early-second rounds.

Sioux defenseman Dillon Simpson did not receive a Combine invite, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he went high in the draft, anyway.

The USHL announced its all-league teams today and the first-team defense is two Sioux recruits.

Nick Mattson, who will come to campus this fall, and Jordan Schmaltz, who will come in 2012, are both first-team all-USHL.

Mattson was previous announced as the defenseman of the year. Schmaltz, meanwhile, is only 17, which is extremely impressive.
