Pearson Hired At Tech

Michigan Tech has hired Mel Pearson as the next head coach of the program.

Pearson, a Michigan Tech alum, has served as an assistant at Michigan for the last 23 years. He turned down the job last month but after some thinking, he decided to take it.

Pearson graduated from Michigan Tech in 1981, also the last year that the Huskies have made the NCAA tournament. Pearson will replace Jamie Russell, who resigned after the season.

Interesting to hear he took the job after first declining. Perhaps Pearson thought his first head collegiate coaching experience should be at a school that has no place to go but up. He could coach a few years at Tech, cut his teeth and then go back to the maize and blue when Red is ready to go to the retirement home.
