It has been a wild couple of weeks in the college hockey world, so some movements of former players have gone under the radar.
That would include Matt Watkins, who recently signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. Watkins has played in Phoenix’s organization for the past two seasons, spending most of them time in San Antonio (AHL).
Last season, Watkins had 15 goals and 35 points for the Rampage. He was the team’s seventh-leading scorer (only one of the guys ahead of him was younger).
Watkins could find himself on a team with Brett Hextall next season, as Hextall just inked with the Yotes. The two played together on UND’s 2009 MacNaughton Cup champion team.
Watkins, who recently got married, was a restricted free agent. He will be a restricted free agent again next summer.
