Former Sioux captain Matt Smaby is moving out of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization for the first time in his career.
Smaby signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday. The deal is worth $600,000 if he’s in the NHL and $105,000 if he’s in the AHL.
The 6-5 stay-at-home defenseman has played 122 games through four seasons with the Lightning, tallying no goals and six assists. He did not suit up for the Lightning during the playoffs.
Smaby will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
