Duncan signs with Phoenix’s organization

Former Hobey Baker Award winner Ryan Duncan has signed with the Portland (Maine) Pirates — the top minor-league affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Duncan spent the last two years in Salzburg, Austria.

There is a chance that Duncan could play alongside former Sioux teammates Matt Watkins and Brett Hextall in Portland. Both Watkins and Hextall are under contract in Phoenix.

This will be Duncan’s second taste in North American pro hockey. After his 2008-09 senior season at UND, he played two games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers — the top affiliate of the New York Islanders.

  1. It will be nice for Ryan to be in the U.S. Wouldn’t it be fun to see him playing with Brett and Matt again! Of course, wouldn’t it really be fun to see them all playing for Phoenix!

  2. About time, I can’t believe such a good player is just now getting a contract in the U.S. Hope to see him in the NHL eventually!
