Grimaldi, St. Clair Sidelined For Now

With half of the team that competed in the postseason last year gone, it was assumed that the start of this season could be a little bumpy for the Sioux.

On top of that, the Sioux may be shorthanded to start the season as well.

WCHA preseason rookie of the year Rocco Grimaldi has an undisclosed leg injury and will not play Saturday against the University of Regina. Grimaldi is listed as week to week.

UND also may be without Colten St. Clair, who is being held up by the NCAA Clearinghouse. UND coach Dave Hakstol said the compliance staff is working hard to get that resolved.

Freshman forward Mike Parks, who missed part of the preseason with an injury, will be good to go for Saturday’s exhibition, though.

Hakstol said all three goalies are likely to play Saturday with Aaron Dell and Brad Eidsness seeing significant time.

USCHO came out with their list of top 10 defensemen, which did not include Ben Blood. The difference seems to be scoring points. Is there any chance Ben could turn into a scoring machine this year, filling the void left by Genoway, and produce 30-40 points?

Ben’s puck movement has improved a ton, but I don’t see him putting up the scoring numbers of Genoway. Sad thing is that the USCHO still overlooks a good steady D man with a great plus/minus in favor of a scoring D man with a not so good plus/minus. Blood should have been listed as a top 10 in my opinion.

I’d say he needs to have about half as many points as penalty minutes. Last year, he became the disciplined player the team needed compared to his freshman year, cutting his PIM in half almost. I hope he can stay in the 20 – 25 penalty range and score 20 points. Stay out of the box, Ben!

i am constantly suprised at how fast Blood can make a move and head full steam up ice. He is huge, but he can skate well.
