Stafford named alternate captain

Former Sioux forward Drew Stafford has been named alternate captain of the Buffalo Sabres.

Stafford had a breakout 2010-11 season for the Sabres scoring 31 goals in 62 games and will be looked to build upon that this year. He just signed a four-year deal worth $16 million.

Stafford is the fourth Sioux player who will wear a letter in the NHL this season. Matt Greene is wearing an ‘A’ for the Los Angeles Kings, while Jonathan Toews will continue wearing the ‘C’ for the Chicago Blackhawks and Zach Parise earned a ‘C’ for the New Jersey Devils.
