VandeVelde scores first NHL goal

Former UND standout Chris VandeVelde scored his first NHL goal today for the Edmonton Oilers.

VandeVelde gained the zone, skated across the high slot and snapped a shot past goalie Steve Mason during Edmonton’s 6-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. VandeVelde’s goal tied the game at 2.

VandeVelde was called up by the Oilers on Saturday. He now has a goal and two assists in 13 career NHL games.

VandeVelde played 11:16 in the game, including 3:47 on the penalty kill.
