Lamoureux twins help U.S. crush Canada

Monique Lamoureux-Kolls had six points (three goals, three assists) and twin sister Jocelyne Lamoureux had two goals and one assists as Team USA handed Canada its worst loss ever in women’s hockey — a 9-2 thrashing in the opening game of the IIHF World Championship.

The U.S. opened a 5-0 lead in just 5:32 with the Lamoureux twins scoring three of the goals.

Monique was named Team USA’s player of the game.

Other multi-point games for Team USA included Kelli Stack (3 assists, Lamourexs’ linemate), Hilary Knight (2 goals, 1 assist) and defenseman Gigi Marvin (2 assists).

It sounds like there was a great crowd on hand in Burlington, Vt.

The Americans are back at it at 6 p.m. today with a game against the Russians.

For more info, sports info director Derek Koenen is at the tournament and is posting a travel blog and postgame interviews with the players. Check it out here.
