Genoway re-signs with Wild

Former UND All-American defenseman Chay Genoway has re-signed with the Minnesota Wild, inkingĀ a two-year deal. Financial terms of the contract were not immediately available.

Genoway was set to become a restricted free agent on Sunday.

Genoway played one game with the Wild last year, registering an assist. He was named one of the three stars of the game.

The Morden, Man., product was the leading defenseman scorer for the Houston Aeros, tallying 36 points.

It will be interesting to see if the Wild give Genoway more of a shot next season. A year ago, the Wild were terrible offensively and didn’t have much production from the blue line, but left Genoway in Houston until the very end.

  1. Why did the Wild not play him more? An even better question might be, why did he stay with the Wild? Any team would have to want him. Could you imagine if he teamed back up with Oshie or Toews?

  2. Mr. Genoway certainly deserves a shot at a regular spot on the Wild’s roster. All Sioux fans know what he is capable of. Dear Minnesota Wild powers that be: Mr. Genoway is a model player with loads of talent, especially skating with the puck. He also is a class act with great leadership qualities. Give him a legitimate opportunity to play everyday in the NHL and he will succeed.

    Sincerely,

    Me

    • Couldnt have said it better myself. But the wild organization will give someone that gets injured for 40 games a year a chance.

    • You said it. Hopefully Chay gets a legitimate shot at the big league. Unfortunately Chay is playing for the Wild organization and will get looked over way too many times. Every year I watch them less and less. The only time I will make it a point to watch the Wild is if Chay gets called up or they sign Parise.
