Injury Bug Bites Again: Rowney Out Tonight

We’re still a week away from the first game of the season, but the injury bug keeps biting UND.

In addition to Michael Parks being out with a leg injury, Carter Rowney will be held out of tonight’s exhibition game against the U.S. Under-18 team with an undisclosed injury. Rowney’s status for next weekend’s regular-season opener in Fairbanks is up in the air.

UND will be getting one player back in the lineup tonight. Captain Andrew MacWilliam will be in uniform, but his minutes are expected to be limited as he eases back in. MacWilliam was held out of last weekend’s exhibition as he’s still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

All eyes will be on UND’s top line tonight, consisting of Rocco Grimaldi, Corban Knight and Danny Kristo. It’s an unconventional line with three right-handed shots (Grimaldi will play on the off wing), but the staff is going to test it out and see how it goes.

With the injuries, tonight’s game should provide more consistent shifts for rookies Bryn Chyzyk and Coltyn Sanderson. They were extras in the game against Manitoba, but without Parks and Rowney, they will be bumped into the regular lineup. It’s a good chance for them to make an impression.

A few UND players will be suiting up against their old team tonight: Kristo, Grimaldi, Nick Mattson and Derek Forbort all came from the NTDP.

If you missed it earlier this morning, here’s a story on Devils Lake’s Keaton Thompson and EGF’s Gage Ausmus, who will suit up against UND tonight. Thompson will play for UND in a year or two. Ausmus will play at Denver.

Hey Brad, what is the word on Senkbeil (Jim)? Why has he been ineligible and when can we expect him back? Thanks!
