Gameday Final: UND 4, Boston U 2

UND mixes up the top two lines and keeps the other two the same. Clarke Saunders is starting in net. Lines and live chat below.

First period

Boston University 1, UND 0 — Danny O’Regan (Matt Grzelcyk, Matt Nieto) 16:52. Grzelcyk’s point shot gets to the net, where Saunders makes the save, but O’Regan finds the rebound in the crease area, takes a step and has an open net.

Second period

Boston University 1, UND 1 — Connor Gaarder (Mark MacMillan, Brendan O’Donnell) 1:11. MacMillan brings the puck up the left wall and throws one toward the crease area, where the puck goes off of Gaarder’s leg and high into the net.

UND 2, Boston University 1 — Connor Gaarder (Drake Caggiula, Nick Mattson) 7:07. Caggiula makes a great outlet pass from his own end to send Gaarder on a rush up the right wing. Caggiula unleashes a slap shot from the right circle that beats Maguire stick side.

UND 2, Boston University 2 — Ahti Oksanen (Alexx Privitera, Cason Hohmann) 12:12 (pp). Oksanen takes a hit by MacWilliam, draws a five-minute major for contact to the head. He’s out there to thread a point shot to tie the game.

Third period

UND 3, Boston University 2 — Connor Gaarder (Rocco Grimaldi, Danny Kristo) 4:24 (pp). Skating on a five-on-three power play, Grimaldi flies up the right wing, curls behind the net and leaves a perfect feed for Gaarder, who taps one in from the doorstep.

UND 4, Boston University 2 — Rocco Grimaldi (Carter Rowney, Mark MacMillan) 19:39 (en). After bottling up BU with a forecheck, UND gets a two-on-one and Rowney feeds Grimaldi for the icing.

Wow, the call on Mac was one of the worst I have seen in a long time. It was a perfect check with zero intent to go to the head. What is worse is that we lose him for tomorrow’s game. The official had a perfect view of the check so it is hard to understand how this call could be missed so badly? Anyway, our forechecking looked great tonight. Brad, I didn’t see the Alaska Anchorage games, how did ND look tonight vs last weekend’s games?
