Happy Thanksgiving to all.
UND will spend it on a charter flight to South Bend, Ind., and the team will have a Thanksgiving dinner together there Thursday night. That means Dave Hakstol doesn’t have to cook this year and he says that’s a good thing for anybody who would be stuck eating his meal.
The whole team will make the trip, even injured forward Michael Parks (week-to-week). Parks won’t play against the Irish.
I would expect that we’ll see similar line combinations as Saturday night. Hakstol said the team felt pretty good after the win, but when they went back to work this week, they had plenty of things on their plate. That’s fairly normal for this time of year.
This weekend is sort of a homecoming for Danny Kristo, who spent a number of years growing up in Indiana. Kristo said he’s still a big Notre Dame football fan, but won’t be packing any of his Irish gear this weekend. Joe Gleason also is an Irish football fan.
Rocco Grimaldi also is looking forward to this weekend. One of his best friends from when he lived in Michigan is making the drive to South Bend. Grimaldi said he hasn’t seen his friend in years. He also said his parents and his math teacher from high school are coming to the series.
This weekend, the Herald is starting an experiment with expanded UND hockey coverage. We’ll be sending two people on the road — myself and Tom Miller — to cover the series. That means more stories about the games and more videos for the blog. We hope to post a pregame video preview before every game. So once you get through Friday morning reading, hopefully we’ll have some Friday afternoon viewing. Keep in mind, we’re rookies at this video stuff, so hopefully it gets better as we go.
Earlier this week, Brad Miller posted a tweet asking where UND ranks in hockey attendance with the NHL being locked out. I did a bunch of research and came up with the answer. That will be in Thursday’s paper.
For Friday’s paper, we’ll have a series preview and the usual notes column. There will be a women’s hockey preview for their series with Minnesota-Duluth, which should be a big one. How has Michelle Karvinen’s return affected UND? Hear from Brian Idalski on that later.
Lastly, we held our weekly live chat today. If you are interested in sifting through that, check it out below.
