Weekly Wednesday Update

It’s Denver week, and according to defenseman Joe Gleason, it may be the biggest rivalry series in The Ralph this season.

After all, the teams have met in the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. I’ll have a little more on the rivalry in Friday’s paper.

If you want to watch today’s press conferences, go here.

As for the injury update, UND will once again be without Michael Parks. UND coach Dave Hakstol says no chances that Parks suits up against the Pioneers. It’s starting to look like he won’t play until the new year.

On Denver’s side, coach George Gwozdecky says the Pioneers should be getting defenseman Nolan Zajac back this week. The brother of former UND forwards Travis and Darcy, is one of the top rookies for the Pioneers. Defenseman Josiah Didier will not travel to Grand Forks, though.

DU forward Larkin Jacobson has been suspended a couple of times this season for violating team rules. He was out for last weekend and has only played two games this season.

According to a court records search, Jacobson was arrested this summer for disorderly intoxication and disturbing the peace. The disorderly intoxication charge was dismissed. He was sentenced to unsupervised probation for disturbing the peace. He also was charged on November 4 for trespassing. That case remains open.

DU forward Jarrod Mermis also served a one-game suspension last Friday but returned for Saturday’s game against Wisconsin.

Gwozdecky said there’s a good chance the Pioneers will opt to bring all three goalies on the trip now that Adam Murray is healthy.

Mr Gwozdecky certainly seems to have a lax disciplinary approach. I find it hard to believe Jacobson would still be present on the Siouz roster..
