Gameday Final: UND 2, Denver 2, Tie

TONIGHT’S VIEWING: Midco Sports Network, FCS Central, DirecTV 626. UND is switching a few things around on the third and fourth lines. That’s about all for changes. Denver is skating with 10 forwards. Zac Larraza didn’t make the trip (illness) and Larkin Jacobson is serving a suspension. Jarrod Mermis also is out of the lineup.. Live chat and lines are below.

First period

Denver 1, UND 0 — Chris Knowlton (Nick Shore, Dakota Mermis) 7:21. Shore and Knowlton entered the zone two-on-two. Shore’s shot was blocked by Mattson, but the puck fell at their feet, Knowlton saw it and swatted it into the corner of the net.

Second period

Denver 1, UND 1 — Carter Rowney (Drake Caggiula, Jordan Schmaltz) 1:32. Schmaltz walks down and snaps a shot that’s stopped by Olkinuora. Caggiula passes the rebound to Rowney in the slot area. Rowney fans on the shot but it goes off of Zajac’s stick and in the net.

Denver 2, UND 1 — Scott Mayfield (Ty Loney, Dakota Mermis) 7:43 (pp). Mayfield launches a point shot through traffic and past Saunders’ stick.

Denver 2, UND 2 — Corban Knight (Dillon Simpson, Nick Mattson) 10:54 (pp). Grimaldi makes a dazzling play to create a power play and UND capitalizes right away. Simpson sends a point shot to the crease area, where Knight gets two attempts. Olkinuora stops the first one, but Knight picks the corner on the second.

I don’t care what anybody says. You can stick up for Midco all you want, but their telecasts are nothing but a sham. They’re making a mokery of UND hockey and they should be ashamed of their sub par coverage. It is the “laughing stock” of the country. I’ve been a fan for years but I can’t take much more of their terrible coverage. UND hockey has been ruined and won’t recover until Midco is history. I wouldn’t pay one thin dime for the trash they are giving us. It’s no fun watching anymore.

Well, baskr, how intelligent you are! But I do watch cause I’m a long time fan but it makes me sick to see how it is being butchered. They can’t sync the audio with the lips, no national anthem which was “always” a highlight for those who get to perform. No trivia, nothing about other UND sports. I thought a color commentator was to provide color? Not Mr. Koberinski, he’s boring, dull, and speaks in a monotone voice. Hammer is “not” a hockey announcer. I’m also sick of the South Dakota commercials on a North Dakota hockey broadcast. Where the heck have the Grand Forks commercials gone? No American Tire, No Bremer Bank, No Whitey’s, No Dahlstrom, nothing local at all. How about all the crutial replays??? They don’t know how to provide them.

It seems that every game I watch this season the officiating gets worse and worse. It’s getting tough to remain impartial when SO many mistakes and blown calls by the stripes seem to drag the games down. Yes – I have jumped on the bandwagon for this one.

So Brad, I see Zajac scored for the Sioux tonight.. Only family to score goals for UND on two different teams?

I, too, miss the old broadcasts. With Midco I feel we do not get the ” flavor” of the hockey game as we did before. With the FSSN you felt more like you were at the game enjoying the atmosphere including giggles from the announcers- just a more hometown feel. (However I do like the penalty clock!)
