A couple of UND recruits are off to great starts at world tournaments this week.
UND women’s recruit Halli Krzyzaniak has been dominant for Canada. She leads the undefeated Canadians in goals, assists, points, plus-minus and shots on goal…. and she’s a defenseman.
Krzyzaniak is certainly living up to her billing as one of the top recruits in the country for 2013 (UND may struggle offensively next season, but should have its best defensive corps ever).
UND also has three recruits on Team USA who have played well. Forward Amy Menke has four points in three games, defenseman Gracen Hirschy has two points and goaltender Lexie Shaw has played one game and posted a 10-save shutout.
The U.S. has not allowed a goal yet in the tournament and should play Canada for gold.
On the men’s side, UND recruit Chris Wilkie is playing very well at the World Under-17 tournament in Quebec.
Wilkie leads the American squad in scoring with six points in three games. He had three points in Team USA’s last game against Quebec. USA is 3-0.
UND recruit Austin Poganski, who was added to the mostly NTDP roster, is tied for second on the team with two goals. The Americans play Slovakia at 12:30 p.m. today.
