Gameday final: Colorado College 4, UND 3

TONIGHT’S VIEWING: MidcoSN, FCS Central, DirecTV 623. Notes: Brendan O’Donnell is a healthy scratch as Rocco Grimaldi comes back into the lineup. Full lines and live chat are below.

First period

Colorado College 1, UND 0 — Jordan DiGiando (Peter Stoykewych) 2:54. Saunders allows one that he might want back. DiGiando, a sophomore with zero career goals, snipes one from outside of the dot with no traffic.

Colorado College 1, UND 1 — Danny Kristo (Dillon Simpson, Corban Knight) 8:45 (pp). Skating on a four-on-three power play, Kristo snipes a shot in the top corner of the net from the point to tie it. Knight’s point streak goes to 16 with the assist.

Colorado College 2, UND 1 — Archie Skalbeck (Scott Winkler, Joe Marciano) 9:33. Winkler battles for the puck in the corner and as two UND defenders converge, he makes a nice little play to Skalbeck, who skates in alone from the circle. Skalbeck snipes the short-side corner of the net to answer Kristo’s goal immediately.

Second period

Colorado College 2, UND 2 — Nick Mattson (Carter Rowney, Rocco Grimaldi) 13:29. Grimaldi snapped a shot from the point. Rowney makes a nice re-direct in front of the net and the puck goes five-hole on Howe and sits on the goal line. Mattson crashes the net and ties the game.

Colorado College 3, UND 2 — William Rapuzzi (Rylan Schwartz, Eamonn McDermott) 19:22 (pp). The Tigers get a four-on-three power-play chance and take advantage. Schwartz snaps a shot from the point and Rapuzzi re-directs it to put CC back on top.

Third period

Colorado College 3, UND 3 — Mark MacMillan (Joe Gleason, Dillon Simpson) 2:44. MacMillan picks the puck up in the neutral zone, torches McDermott on the left wing, takes a slash from Stoykewych as he brings it hard to the net and slips it just inside the post as he’s falling down. Highlight reel goal. Possible goal of the year?

Colorado College 4, UND 3 — Jeff Collett (Scott Wamsgamz, Andrew Hamburg) 12:56. Wamsgamz comes out of the corner with the puck and spots Collett on top of the crease. Collett is tied up a little bit but gets enough on the re-direct attempt for the puck to trickle across the line.

  1. Bad thing about this game is Schmaltz and Forbert are playing too poorly for the coaches to be able to take Gleason out of lineup. Panz will get a look tomorrow night. Thinking 4 or 24 sit, though 20 should. Hammer is too infatuated with 20 for my liking. Yeah, he has some points. But when do the turnovers and the failing to cover his guy leading to goals against become enough?

  2. Do not like condemning any one player but one thing very noticeable was Gleason having 3 shots blocked in the third including one that led to the rush where CC scored their 4th goal. Certainly he’ll correct this going forward.
