Alabama-Huntsville has been accepted to the WCHA and will join the league immediately next season.
Huntsville’s admittance to the WCHA means the league will be at an even 10 teams after realignment next season: UAH, Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Fairbanks, Bemidji State, Michigan Tech, MSU-Mankato, Northern Michigan, Lake Superior State, Bowling Green and Ferris State.
Time will tell how these program do financially in the new WCHA, but for now, it’s possible that realignment has been a good thing for college hockey. For all the talk about how it is going to kill off programs, at this point, it has allowed college hockey to add one and save one.
Great news for college hockey! I wish Alabama-Huntsville the best.
Completely random: saw a Sioux jersey in the stands when i was watching the Providence/UMass-Lowell game…also High school hockey game right now is Wayzata/Holy Family, Shane Gersich(Sioux recruit) plays for Holy Family
The HS game was on FSN..Gersich ended up getting a game misconduct with 5 mins left haha he will fit in just fine
msu, tech, and bsu will be able to compete. cant really say that today.
msu is within four points of the top of the WCHA and three points of the Sioux- they took Wisconsin to overtime twice- if those games would have went the other way they’d be ahead of us- i’d say they’re doing just fine right now.
