Gameday final: UND 4, Wisconsin 1

TONIGHT’S VIEWING: The game is on DirecTV 626, FCS Central and Midco Sports Network. Webcast at undsports.com. Lineup notes: The lines are shuffled a bit with Mitch MacMillan coming back in for Connor Gaarder. Zane Gothberg is back in the nets. Full lines and live chat are below.

First period

UND 1, Wisconsin 0 — Mark MacMillan (Rocco Grimaldi, Jordan Schmaltz) :45 (pp). Grimaldi blasts one low from the point, MacMillan makes an outstanding tip to get it to go five-hole.

UND 2, Wisconsin 0 — Joe Gleason (Corban Knight, Danny Kristo) 13:24 (pp). Knight gets the puck in the left circle and spots Gleason cutting back door. Knight puts the pass on Gleason’s take and Gleason doesn’t make any mistake.

Second period

UND 3, Wisconsin 0 — Michael Parks (Carter Rowney, Dillon Simpson) 8:17. Rowney skates the puck up the ice on a rush along the left wing. He spots Parks coming up the right side and hits him. Parks holds forehand, gets Peterson to commit, moves it to the backhand and scores.

UND 4, Wisconsin 0 — Michael Parks (Rocco Grimaldi, Carter Rowney) 16:18. A shot goes off of Grimaldi’s leg in front of the net and slides behind the net. Parks picks it up and finishes off one of his trademark wraparound goals.

Third period

UND 4, Wisconsin 1 — Mark Zengerle (Joseph LaBate, Nic Kerdiles) 13:30. Gothberg gets caught behind the net playing the puck and Wisconsin makes him pay. The puck goes to LaBate in the right circle, and by the time Gothberg gets back in position, the puck is going cross-crease to the left circle, where Zengerle puts it away.

  1. I know UND can sometimes come off as boarish or classless occassionally, but this Wisconsin team was so absolutely classless. Yesterday and tonight, as they announced the Wisconsin lineup, all of their players intentionally sprayed our cheerleaders. Have a problem with the men on our team, not our female cheerleaders. I don’t think I’ve seen anything so disgraceful in sports. Kerdiles may as well have won a Razzie for his awful acting/diving, where after “hurting” his neck, he for some reason had to limp to the bench.. And at the end of the game I saw Dillon Simpson and Zane Gothberg shake the officials hands, but none of the Wisconsin players did. I always thought of this as an intense series, but this weekend has really made me lose a lot of respect for their team.

  2. Agree about the classless UW players, they skated hard up to the blue line and directed snow at the cheerleader bigtime! Also, sprayed fans more than I can remember with water. The diving and flipping was like pro wrestling. Not impressed at all with the character of that team, and it all starts at the top with eaves.

  3. Whatever the case, what we saw last night was some Sioux Hockey. We havent seen it all year, even when we won. Boy was it a heck of a lot of fun to watch.

  4. Hey Brad, any word on what type of suspension Pattyn might be looking at? I’m sure he’ll get something for coming off the bench, and I’m almost sure there’s a mandatory suspension for dropping the gloves (despite not throwing any punches).

  5. I thought Pattyn was on the ice already…wasn’t it the Wisconsin player who came off the bench for a “line change” ? I must have missed that if that’s what happened. Fun game to watch-hopefully the guys can carry that type intensity with them into next weekend. I was really hoping Zane would get the shutout… I hope he learned a tough lesson on coming out of the net! I realize he likes doing that, but he’s got to learn when and when not to do it… last night was a time that he shouldn’t and he cost himself his own shutout!

Now Brad, do you know if Directv is picking up games next weekend?
