Women’s Final: UND 5, Ohio State 2

Lineup notes: Leah Jensen is out as expected for UND. Shelby Amsley-Benzie starts in goal. Ohio State is going with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Full lines and live chat are below.

First period

UND 1, Ohio State 0 — Michelle Karvinen (Jordan Slavin) 7:00. Karvinen torched an Ohio State defenseman and scores on her forehand for Point No. 100 of her career.

UND 1, Ohio State 1 — Hokey Langan 15:49. Ohio State has two chances on a breakaway, but Amsley-Benzie makes outstanding saves. Then, as UND tries to clear up the middle, Langan picks it off and slaps one in high.

Second period

Ohio State 2, UND 1 — Hokey Langan (Sara Schmitt, Annie Svedin) 7:24. Langan comes up the right wing on a rush with space. Slavin skates across the ice to cut her off, but Langan snaps a shot five-hole that barely gets through Amsley-Benzie and trickles across the goal line.

Ohio State 2, UND 2 — Meghan Dufault (Ashley Furia, Monique Lamoureux) 11:47. Lamoureux blasts a point shot that’s stopped by Steffes, but Furia outworks an OSU defenseman for a loose puck and makes a great backhand, cross-crease feed to Dufault, who has a tap-in.

UND 3, Ohio State 2 — Jocelyne Lamoureux (Sam LaShomb, Monique Lamoureux) 13:51. LaShomb takes a blast from the point. It hits traffic in front, but Jocelyne picks it up and roofs the rebound.

UND 4, Ohio State 2 — Megan Gilbert (Andrea Dalen, Samantha Hanson) 16:59. Dalen leads the rush and snaps a shot from the slot. Steffes makes the initial save, but Gilbert crashes the crease and scores on a rebound.

Third period

UND 5, Ohio State 2 — Michelle Karvinen (Jocelyne Lamoureux, Monique Lamoureux) 9:12 (pp). Jocelyne takes a slap shot from the left circle off the far pad. The rebound goes to Karvinen, who easily puts it in for her second of the night.

Good job SIOUX! Last year, when the women took on Ohio at Ohio, some of the Buckeye fans were a little upset at us Sioux fans. Wouldn’t you know, some drunk dude spit in my 8 month old daughters finger food. Luckily some other Ohio fans thought that this was crossing the line and warned us. I will forever love watching a Buckeye lose. GO SIOUX!
