Gameday Final: UND 6, Denver 1

TONIGHT’S VIEWING: It is on Root Sports. That’s DirecTV 683 and Dish Network 414. Places like Rumors, Ground Round and BWW should have it. Lineup notes: Saunders is in for Gothberg. Gaarder is in for Senkbeil. Full lines and live chat are below.

First period

Denver 1, UND 0 — Ty Loney (Nolan Zajac, Nick Shore) 8:50 (pp). Denver immediately goes to work on its power play again. Zajac, standing in the low right circle, hits Loney in the slot and Loney snaps one by Saunders.

Denver 1, UND 1 — Danny Kristo (Corban Knight, Dillon Simpson) 10:34. Knight makes a beautiful feed to Kristo in front of the net. Kristo has the puck on his backhand, spins and shoots it underneath Olkinuora to tie the game.

UND 2, Denver 1 — Carter Rowney (Mark MacMillan, Rocco Grimaldi) 18:24 (pp). MacMillan enters the zone on a rush one-on-two. Both defenders close him off as he gets near the crease area, but Rowney is following close behind, picks up the loose puck and beats Olkinuora five-hole.

UND 3, Denver 1 — Rocco Grimaldi (Danny Kristo, Dillon Simpson) 19:48. Kristo leads a three-on-two rush up the ice with his linemates. Kristo, on the right wing, feeds it all the way across the ice to Grimaldi, who finishes it off with a perfect one-timer.

Second period

UND 4, Denver 1 — Mark MacMillan (Carter Rowney, Jordan Schmaltz) 19:59. Schmaltz launches a point shot that hits traffic in front. Rowney picks up the rebound, evades a defender and gets a good shot on net. Brittain makes the save, but MacMillan slides a backhand in with less than second left on the clock.

Third period

UND 5, Denver 1 — Michael Parks (Mark MacMillan, Drake Caggiula) 12:43. MacMillan shoots one wide from the left circle and it goes behind the net. Brittain gets caught moving the wrong way and Parks scores on one of his patented wraparounds.

UND 6, Denver 1 — Dillon Simpson (Nick Mattson, Colten St. Clair) 19:20 (pp). The game turns chippy, UND keeps Knight and Kristo off the ice, but UND still scores with the makeshift power play on a Simpson blast from the point.

I know you hate this question Brad, but does anyone know of an online source for the game? I’ve upped my cable package to a crazy expensive level, but still can’t get games like this one.

Color of the sweaters tonight? Let’s me know which jersey to wear… I’m assuming green, but I really want to wear my black.

The first line looked to be on a level of their own, especially Kristo. He has shown a world of maturity on the ice.

I’d say that he’s shown a world of talent on the ice, but maturity I’m not sold on. He continues to smash sticks in frustration, including Friday night as he headed off the ice after missing that wide-open chance in the crease. LOVE the talent, drive, and work ethic these days, but he could still show a little more composure.

Cindi, no doubt about that! ) I love that he is flying under the radar unlike Knight who is portrayed to the media like a god. Don’t get me wrong in saying that because Knighter deserves to be recognized but Kristo’s play of late is pretty darn impressive
