Genoway Traded To Washington

Former UND defenseman Chay Genoway is off to a new organization.

The Minnesota Wild traded Genoway to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.

Genoway will report to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, Washington’s top minor league club.

The move may give Genoway more of a shot at reaching the NHL, as he was buried on the depth chart for the Minnesota Wild, who recently signed a veteran defenseman and will welcome first-round pick Matt Dumba to the organization next year.

Genoway was the second-leading defenseman scorer for the Houston Aeros, Minnesota’s top minor-league club. He had four goals and 19 points in 53 games.

Genoway did play one NHL game with the Wild last season.

Sad to see him leave the local organization, but good for him and his future. I think he’ll have a good shot there with the style of play in Washington.

Sad to see him go, but good luck to him. Hopefully he gets a shot to contribute in the NHL. He’ll be joining a few Gophers in Hershey, Taffe, Stoa, Potulny, and Carman.
