Sustr to leave Omaha

Not much of a surprise, but highly sought-after free agent defenseman Andrej Sustr, a junior at Nebraska Omaha, has decided to leave the program and sign an NHL deal, a number of sources reported Monday (TSN’s Bob McKenzie was first to report it).

Sustr’s roommate, Ryan Walters, said on Twitter that Sustr’s phone was ringing off the hook Monday.

Sustr, a 6-foot-8 giant from the Czech Republic, tallied 9 goals and 25 assists for Omaha this season. He played on the team’s top-pair and was named third-team all-WCHA at the end of the season.

Omaha’s season officially came to an end Sunday with a loss to Minnesota State-Mankato in the league’s playoffs.

  1. Rangers need depth on the Blue line, he would be a good fit there. No bigger stage to play on then Broadway!!!

  2. Just a head’s up…he was 9-16–25 for points this year. Dean did a good job finding that kid.
