Two defensemen from Grand Forks have started pro hockey careers.
Red River’s Eric Meland, who played college hockey at Princeton, and Central’s Matt Carlson, who played pro at Bemidji State, have both signed in the Central Hockey League.
Meland played four games with Missouri, registering two assists and a plus-4 rating before being placed on the 14-day injured reserve. Meland played forward in high school and for three years with the Tigers, but was moved to defense this season.
Carlson has played in three games for the Quad City Mallards and has tallied an assist and a plus-two rating.
