Canada beats U.S. for gold

Despite outshooting the Canadians 35-12, Team USA lost the gold medal game at the IIHF World Under-18 tournament 3-2, ending the Americans’ four-year run of titles in the event.

Two local players – Devils Lake’s Keaton Thompson and East Grand Forks’ Gage Ausmus  – earned silver medals at the event.

Thompson, who will go to UND, finished with one assist and registered a minus-2 rating in the tournament. Ausmus, who is uncommitted, had two assists and was a plus-5.

USA’s top players in the tournament were Boston College defenseman recruit Steve Santini and Michigan forward recruit J.T. Compher.

  1. Brad are you going to get in touch with Ausmus about possible UND committment? We could really use a guy like him next season.
