Most NHL teams have started or will soon start holding development camps for prospects, and a number of UND players will be attending them.
One of the notables is undrafted free agent Carter Rowney, who is attending camp with the New York Rangers.
Rowney just completed his four-year college career and signed a tryout deal to play for the Abbotsford Heat at the end of last season. Abbotsford is the top minor-league affiliate of the Calgary Flames. Rowney attended Flames camp last summer.
Undrafted UND goalie Clarke Saunders is attending camp with the Washington Capitals as well. Saunders went to Tampa Bay Lightning camp as an undrafted player last summer.
I tracked down rosters for 23 of the 30 teams so far (exceptions: Sabres, Devils, Islanders, Hurricanes, Blues, Flames, Avs). Here’s the list of players I found that will be attending camps:
Gage Ausmus, San Jose Sharks
Derek Forbort, Los Angeles Kings
Zane Gothberg, Boston Bruins
Rocco Grimaldi, Florida Panthers
Corban Knight, Calgary Flames
Paul LaDue, Los Angeles Kings
Mark MacMillan, Montreal Canadiens
Andrew MacWilliam, Toronto Maple Leafs
Nick Mattson, Chicago Blackhawks
Wade Murphy, Nashville Predators
Brendan O’Donnell, Tampa Bay Lightning
Tucker Poolman, Winnipeg Jets
Carter Rowney, New York Rangers
Adam Tambellini, New York Rangers
Keaton Thompson, Anaheim Ducks
Clarke Saunders, Washington Capitals
Dillon Simpson, Edmonton Oilers
Drafted players not on rosters: Joe Gleason (Chicago Blackhawks), Luke Johnson (Chicago Blackhawks), Danny Kristo (New York Rangers) and Michael Parks (Philadelphia Flyers).
In the interview below, Rangers director of player personnel says that the team believes Kristo can make the roster out of fall camp because of some injuries.
