Random updates

It’s the calm before the storm in the hockey world. Classes have started, but practice is still a couple of weeks away. Everyone has pretty much set their rosters and now it’s a waiting game.

In the meantime, there has been a few news items across college hockey.

First off, Midco Sports Network kicked off the new North Dakota Hockey with Dave Hakstol show last Tuesday. The show featured a segment on the old Ralph going down and another one on Evan Trupp going down memory lane. Those are on YouTube and posted below.

Former UND goalie Tate Maris has been invited to training camp with the St. Charles Chill of the Central Hockey League. It sounds like Maris played well in a tryout according to this article.

Former UND defenseman Nick Fuher has landed a job as an assistant coach with the Winkler Flyers in the MJHL. Read about that here.

Shane Frederick from the Mankato Free Press reports that the Verizon Wireless Center is getting a slight facelift this summer, and those in Mankato hope that’s just the first step of a much larger project. Read his story here.

Minnesota freshman forward Gabe Guertler has been suspended indefinitely following a DWI arrest over the weekend. Guertler, who played juniors in Fargo, will have his status re-visited in November.

Dubuque of the USHL took third in the JCWC tournament in Russia in August. Grand Forks product Jacob Benson had a goal in the tournament for Dubuque. He will play his senior season with the Fighting Saints. He’s committed to St. Cloud State.
