UND Lands Standout ’97 Forward

UND received a verbal commitment from Fargo Force forward Christian Cakebread, who has already made waves in the USHL this season.

Cakebread, a 1997-born forward from Gilbert, Ariz., had a hat trick in the Fall Classic and opened the regular season with a two-goal performance for Fargo, despite being one of the youngest players in the league.

Fargo pegged Cakebread as a top player and used one of its tenders to sign him.

Cakebread is projected to come to UND in 2015.

If you are wondering about his unique last name, Fargo Forum’s Chris Murphy reported last week that it comes from England, where his family worked as bakers for the royal family.

Cakebread was a fourth-round pick of the Kelowna Rockets in the 2012 WHL Draft.

It could be my pessimism getting the best of me, but the likelihood of us seeing him on campus seems pretty low.

Yeah, he’s drafted into the CHL. Newsflash: ALL top recruiting targets are going to be drafted in the CHL. It’s just something you deal with. That’s why you over recruit a bit.
