UND’s ‘Kermit’ dies

Lee Kohl, the man known for skating around the old Ralph with the Kermit the Frog head on, died at age 64.

Fans from the era in the late 1970s and early 1980s will certain remember Kohl and the slogan, “Kermit’s luck guides our puck,” that was used back then.

The Herald’s Robb Jeffries wrote a full story on Kohl. View that here.

  1. While I am sorry that Mr. Kohl has passed, I am happy to relate that Kermir is still alive. I was the original Kermit in 1979. That’s my picture (I still have that UND hockey sweater). We left Grand Forks in 1980; I don’t know what happened to the Kermit head (which several of us made with the help of many beers).

  2. We have found our new nickname!

Here come your University of North Dakota Fighting Kermits!

Just get the rights from the Jim Henson corporation and green works for us!

  3. I know someone who still has the Kermit doll. A family member has it. It still is partially-painted blue. Michigan players took it off the plexi-glas at the old Winter Sports Center one game and back to Ann Arbor. Eventually, it was returned.
