First period

Vermont 1, UND 0 — Nick Bruneteau (Brady Shaw, Rob Hamilton) 2:57 (pp). At the end of a power play, Bruneteau blasts one from the right point that goes off of Ausmus and in the corner of the net.

Vermont 1, UND 1 — Adam Tambellini (Drake Caggiula, Rocco Grimaldi) 3:25. Caggiula walks a defenseman on a rush up the right wing and takes the puck to the net. The puck goes in the air and Tambellini swats it in for the first of his career.

Vermont 2, UND 1 — Tom Forgione (Pete Massar, Brendan Bradley) 7:08. Saunders is looking over his left shoulder as the puck is behind the net. The puck comes to the other side of the  night and Forgione easily puts it in past Saunders, who was still satnding and looking the other way.

Second period

Vermont 3, UND 1 — Rob Hamilton 5:19. Mattson can’t get one by the point guy on a clearing attempt and Hamilton wrists one from the point through traffic. Saunders pulled after allowing that one.

Vermont 3, UND 2 — Rocco Grimaldi (Mark MacMillan, Nick Mattson) 13:34 (pp). MacMillan starts the play with a great pass from the right circle to Grimaldi cutting down the slot. The goalie comes out to challenge and Grimaldi goes behind the end and uses quick hands move it back into the blue paint behind the goalie.

Vermont 3, UND 3 — Brendan O’Donnell (Luke Johnson) 18:50. Johnson makes an strong play along the end wall and tries to take it to the net. The puck goes off his stick to O’Donnell cutting down the slot. O’Donnell makes no mistake.

Third period

UND 4, Vermont 3 — Mark MacMillan (Rocco Grimaldi) 3:09 (pp). UND has a 10-second five-on-three power play and UND takes advantage. After the draw, Grimaldi finds MacMillan a step behind the defense. MacMillan fakes a shot to get the goalie down, walks a step and puts it over the goalie’s pad.

UND 5, Vermont 3 — Drake Caggiula (Rocco Grimaldi) 19:52. Vermont tries to get the puck out of the zone and pull the goalie but can’t do it. UND ices it when Grimaldi strips the puck from a Vermont defenseman and takes a huge hit to make a play to Caggiula, who snaps home his first of the year.

I wouldnt get excited about that. They will try all sorts of line combinations tonight and in the next month or so. As hakstol says, “its a process.” I am worried about why schmaltz isnt in the line up though.

Rodwell not in the line up and not listed as a scratch. Was that a editing mistake or am I missing something?

why the negativity towards saunders ……both goaltenders bring much to the table …….wonder what might have happened if the penalty shot was successful …..2 in two games.
