Gameday Final: SCSU 3, UND 1

Tonight’s viewing: Midco Sports Network or Lineup notes: Sanderson and St. Clair are in, Mitch MacMillan and Chyzyk are out. SCSU has one change: Rehkamp is in for Tedesco. Full lines and live chat are below.

First period

UND 1, SCSU 0 — Troy Stecher (Nick Mattson) 18:40 (pp). Mattson holds the puck at the point, fakes a shot and slides the puck over to Stecher at the top of the left circle. Stecher blasts one past Faragher for the first goal of his career.

Second period

UND 1, SCSU 1 — Tim Daly (Nic Dowd, Jonny Brodzinski) 6:59. Gothberg makes a series of very good saves. Then, Dowd shoots one that Gothberg stops. The puck is sitting in front of him and Gothberg tries to slide the puck into his glove to freeze it, but he misses gloving it and Daly is there to put the puck in the net.

SCSU 2, UND 1 — Nic Dowd (Jimmy Murray, David Morley) 7:11. SCSU scores two goals in 12 seconds as Dowd and Murray convert a give-and-go. Dowd dishes it to Murray, who is below the goal line. Murray holds it with his backhand as Dowd cuts toward the slot. He dishes it back and Dowd snipes the corner of the net.

Third period

SCSU 3, UND 1 — Kalle Kossila (Joey Benik, Jonny Brodzinski) 9:35. After a careless turnover at the offensive blue line, SCSU skates it back and scores on a nice passing play from Brodzinski to Benik to Kossila, who deked Gothberg on top of the crease.

That has to be one of the most pathetic weekends of hockey I have watched in years. Hope someone can light a fire under these guys’ asses.

Despite all their talent, the Sioux are currently one of the youngest teams in college hockey. Despite that fact, fans have been unrealistic whilst all the college coaches have them ranked in the top 10 (although they’ll probably drop out after this weekend). That’s why THEY are coaches, and fans are…… well, “fans”. :-)
