Former UND standout Zach Parise will serve as captain for Team USA at the 2014 Sochi Games.
Parise was introduced as the team captain on Friday afternoon. The alternate captains will be Dustin Brown of the Los Angeles Kings and Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild.
Parise served as an alternate captain for the 2010 Vancouver Games and ended up leading the team in both goals and points.
Parise will be the second former UND player to wear a ‘C’ at the Olympic Games. Previously, Bill Reichart was a co-captain with Herb Brooks in 1964 for Team USA.
“You’re looking for players and people who embody who you are and how you want to play,” Team USA coach Dan Bylsma said. “I can’t think of a better captain than Zach Parise.”
