Gameday Final: UND 5, SCSU 2

TONIGHT’S VIEWING: CBS Sports. No webcast. Lineup notes: Same lineup as last weekend. Gothberg starts. Live chat and full lines are below.

First period

SCSU 1, UND 0 — Joey Benik (Kalle Kossila, Jonny Brodzinski) 10:43 (pp). Kossila has the puck at the point, skates it in and gets LaDue to drop and block the shot. Instead, he dishes it to Benik at the bottom of the right circle. Benik spots an opening five-hole and fires it in.

Second period

SCSU 1, UND 1 — Connor Gaarder (Brendan O’Donnell, Paul LaDue) 5:10. LaDue starts the transition with a nice pass to O’Donnell, who is rushing up the left wing. O’Donnell leaves a drop pass for Gaarder, who rockets a wrister off the back bar and in to tie the game.

UND 2, SCSU 1 — Luke Johnson (Rocco Grimaldi, Brendan O’Donnell) 9:27. Johnson forces a turnover in the neutral zone and dishes it to O’Donnell, who makes a nice touch pass to Grimaldi, who is rushing up the right wing. Grimaldi skates in and shoots far pad. Johnson crashes and scores on a rebound.

UND 3, SCSU 1 — Mark MacMillan (Jordan Schmaltz, Dillon Simpson) 10:17. Schmaltz makes a nice play to gain zone entry, then shoots far pad from the right circle. Rabey loses MacMillan, who is cutting down the slot and MacMillan pounds home the rebound.

UND 4, SCSU 1 — Connor Gaarder (Nick Mattson, Brendan O’Donnell) 13:54. Mattson skates around the entire zone, goes behind the net and makes a perfect centering pass to Gaarder, who picks the glove-side portion of the net from the slot.

UND 5, SCSU 1 — Drake Caggiula (Mark MacMillan, Michael Parks) 19:16. MacMillan and Caggiula enter the zone on a rush. MacMillan gets it to Caggiula in the slot. Caggiula gets tied up and has to try a between-the-legs shot. Faragher stops it, but Caggiula gets another swing at it and scores.

Third period

UND 5, SCSU 2 — Kevin Gravel (Cory Thorson) 15:25. Thorson enters the zone along the left wing. As he gets pinched along the boards, he drops the puck to Gravel, who blasts one through a screen to make it 5-2.

Brad- what’s the status on ausmus? Hasn’t played the last 4 games and I don’t think he played bad before that. The coaches see something in stetcher that I’m not seeing. Two goals last weekend seemed to fall on his shoulders.

Stecher has been in the lineup almost every game and minus last Saturday has been one of their best Dmen
