Rodwell gets 25 stitches

UND forward Derek Rodwell was slow getting off the ice during the third period Saturday night in Houghton, Mich.

Now we know why.

Rodwell sustained a deep cut from the skate of linemate Dan Senkbeil, aka Jim, according to his Twitter account. Rodwell had surgery and 25 stitches to patch up the gash on his leg.

Rodwell has 20 days to heal up before playing against Holy Cross in a nonconference game Jan. 4.

Rodwell out for the year

UND sophomore forward Derek Rodwell is out for the year with a shoulder injury, the school announced Thursday.

Rodwell sustained the injury during Friday’s tie against Harvard and will have surgery later this month.

The Taber, Alta., product had one goal, one assist in 19 games this season for UND, while playing his usual role of being a physical player.

The injury further depletes UND, which is already playing without Rocco Grimaldi, Corban Knight, Mario Lamoureux and Derek Forbort.

Rodwell, a fifth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils, had five goals, four assists and nine points as a rookie.
